Bring It On 02:34
Bring It On Angela Sheik, BMI Got a mother in high country, got a father in his grave, got my troubles tied around me as I drown beneath this wave. Lord, I know that you're beside me but this burden's threatening to take me down. Oh, I need to hear you whisper, “This ain't nothing for me, son. Bring it on.” Got a sister in revival, got a brother in L.A. Got a mind set on survival, got a hope that needs a way. Lord, I know you're in it with me but this pain is threatening to win the day. Oh, I need to hear you whisper, “This ain't nothing for me, son. Bring it on.” Got a river in my pathway that I don't know how to cross. Got a load of kin that’s been suffering, doubled over from the loss. Lord, I know that you're beside me, and there ain't no heart alive that's too far gone. Still I need to hear you whisper, “This ain't nothing for me, son. Bring it on.”

Here Comes Trouble Angela Sheik, BMI Here he comes, Trouble come running, come running down the street. Here he comes, Trouble come running, come running straight at me. Here he comes, Trouble come running, come running at top speed straight at me. Here he comes, Trouble come running. He's come this way before. Here he comes, Trouble come running, worn a path to my front door. Here he comes, Trouble comes running, can't take his company no more. Don't be fooled by his handsome face, pay no mind to his beguiling ways. Don't be drawn by his silky lies, pay no attention to his smiling eyes. Ain't it clear? Ain't it plain as day? He aims to have you on his plate. Don't stand your ground, don't stop to fight, just turn around and run away. Here he comes, Trouble come running. Don't look, he's gaining ground. Here he comes, Trouble come running. Best put your burdens down. Here he comes, Trouble comes running. I hear him breathing now. Best give it all you have and run. Don't be fooled by his handsome face, pay no mind to his beguiling ways. Don't be drawn by his silky lies, pay no attention to his smiling eyes. Ain't it clear? Ain't it plain as day? He aims to have you on his plate. Leave your coat and bag behind. Heed my words and learn from my mistakes.

Tiger In Tow 03:08
Tiger In Tow Angela Sheik BMI Better go with a tiger in tow, better go with a dagger in your stocking, better with a mighty blow ready just in case the monsters show. Better go with a bouncer named Moe, better go with a blade in your pocket, better go with the whole gun show ‘cause it's better than not going at all. Is it possible to lay our weapons down? Is it possible to show our weak places, saying, “Here is my heart, you can hurt it if you want to”? Better go with a tiger in tow, better go with your bow and arrow, better go ready to rumble and roll, that is, if you go at all. Is it possible to lay our weapons down? Is it possible to show up naked, saying, “Hurt me if you want, I know my love can take it”? Say it's possible to lay our weapons down. Say it's possible to show our weak places, saying, “Here is my heart, you can hurt it if you want to.”

Getting Out Of Here Alive Angela Sheik, BMI Kiss it good-bye, tie it up tight. I have every intention of getting out of here alive. Cry your last cry, head for the light. I have every intention of getting out of here alive. So put a chord around its neck, put a dagger in its back, drown it in a weighted sack, I don't mind. Put up your dukes, put up a fight if you have any intention of getting out of here alive. Oh here it goes speaking worries and woes. It won't be easy. Saying, “Oh, give it up, give on in, go lie down and make it easy.” Cry your last cry, head for the light if you have any intention of getting out of here alive. Ready to roar, ready to fight. I have every intention of getting out of here alive.

Over My Dead Body Angela Sheik, BMI I said, “Over my dead body.” I said, “Over my cold and rotting body can you take this from me. You can wait until I die, then try to pry it from my cold, dead fingers.” I said, “Just you try. Just try to take it from me. I will scratch you, I will bite you, I will cut you 'til you bleed. You may want but you can't have it. It's mine and you can't have it. I will fight you to the death, It's mine and you can't take it from me.” He said, “If that's the way you want it, okay. If that's the way you want it, have your way.” I said, “You can't take this from me.” I said, “Don't you know I can't let this go? You take it and you will destroy me. Without it I am lost, without it I am empty. If you know so much then you should know, this is everything to me. I will scratch you, I will bite you, I will cut you 'til you bleed. You may want, but you can't have it. It's mine and you can't have it. I will fight you to the death, It's mine and you can't take it from me.” He said, “Child, if that's the way you want it, okay. If that’s the way you want it, have it your way.”

Home Before Dark Angela Sheik, BMI Didn’t know it would take this long, didn’t know it would be this hard. See the dust rise beneath my feet. Will I get home before dark? Didn’t know it would cost this much. Didn’t know it would hurt this bad. See the sun set before my eyes. Will I get home before dark?

When No One 03:45
When No One Angela Sheik, BMI When no one is in the room. Y*hw*h is in the room. When no one gets in my way, all content to watch me stray, When no one gets in my way. Y*hw*h gets in my way. Sing my heart, sing. When no one is in the night, Y*hw*h is in the night. Sing, my heart, sing.

Evening Calls Angela Sheik, BMI The evening calls with all the strength that she can muster. She steadies her voice, keeps it from shaking on the phone. She reassures. She tells me it will be alright. She exhales. She does her best to calm me. I won't let go, I won't let the voices of the night drown the voice I've always known. And in the edges, somewhere in the background (periphery), I hear a laugh, I know that she is not alone. I won't let go. I won't let the voices of the night drown the voice I've always known. I won't let go, I won't wander off without you. I won't let go of your hand.

Discovery 02:46
Discovery Angela Sheik, BMI Truth is you don't know. Truth is it's okay. Since dust first took breath it's been that way. Together we can trust. Your doubt is my crutch. Truth is we don't know much. Beyond these walls, beyond these threads, beyond these aches, beyond this heart, beyond this head, beyond the hours that we waste, there is a great Discovery and it loves us.

I Only Have Eyes For You lyrics by Al Dubin and music by Harry Warren, arranged by Angela Sheik, BMI My love must be a kind of blind love. I can't see anyone but you. Are the stars out tonight? I don't know if it's cloudy or bright. I only have eyes for you, dear. The moon maybe high, but I can't see a thing in the sky. I only have eyes for you. I don't know if we're in a garden or on a crowded avenue. You are here, so am I. Maybe millions of people go by, but they all disappear from view, and I only have eyes for you,

about

Produced by cutting edge Los Angeles sound designer, RYAT (Brainfeeder Records), the album contains nine new original songs as well as an edgy, electro-acoustic rendition of the standard, I Only Have Eyes For You (written by Harry Warren and Al Dubin).

This album takes a more decisive turn toward what's known as “the Bristol sound” and is heavily influenced by my favorite band, Portishead. It also contains doses of tight, weaving harmonies in the style of the Andrews Sisters. I hope listeners will hear nods to Bjork and The Chemical Brothers. The project themes are based on what I'm calling my “faith cycle,”: a life-long pattern of hope, doubt, determination, failure, surrender, and the moments in between. Guest musicians include Sam Nobles of Mean Lady, Ritchie Rubini, Jordan Maguire, and Ray Gagliardino. This beautiful photograph is by Sunny Miller and Jay Walker, sunnymillerphoto.com.

PRE-ORDER GOODIES: There is an extended version of the track, Tiger In Tow, which is a limited edition track available only with the pre-order of the digital and/or physical album.
