I couldn’t help but notice The girl who sang to me. She wore her pride like a red dress, Like a beautiful disease. Like a red dress. Thought I would take the red dress, And wear it as I pleased. But I tremble as I tell you That the dress is wearing me. Caught in the red dress. This cannot keep going on. Run from the red dress.

Pledge Allegiance words and music by Scot Sax and Angela Sheik Pledge allegiance to my heart now, Swear to me that you won't drop it easily. Pledge allegiance to me. Hold it high like a flag, don't let it fall On the ground, no, hold it high For all the world to see. Would you stand? Would you say it out loud? Who you are, and who you are to me? Pledge allegiance, put your hand upon your heart, Put your faith in what you see. Pledge allegiance to me.

When Will I See You Again? words and music by Angela Sheik Sounds so silly when I say I wasn't ready for you to go so far away. And now I'm scrambling to say... When will I see you again? And when I do, will we be strangers, my friend? What do I do until then? When will I see you again? Honestly, it hasn't been that very long, but still, it begins. And soon, if these days keep zooming like they do, I'm afraid I won't recall you. Will they take your crooked smile and make it straight? If they change your smile I think it's more than I can take. Will they take the freckles from your pretty face? If they change your face, I think my poor heart would break. This is probably me looking at seeds and trying to see trees. Don't worry, baby. I'll be seeing you.

This Year 02:59
This Year words and music by Angela Sheik This year it's going to be better, It's going to be different, I've got a really good feeling about it. This year it's going to be better, It's got so much promise. You know, I can tell right now just by the look of it. This year I'm going to do better. I'm not going to wallow, I'm not going to focus on the negative. No! This year we're all going to conquer, And when it's all over we're all going to say, "That was such a good year! Oh yeah, that was such a good year." This year I'm going to get healthy, I'm going to go green, and I'm going to find love. This year I'm going to break boundaries, I'm going to set goals. I'm going to blow minds! It certainly won't be like last year, When the whole world went crazy, When I didn't have money, When I hated my life. Don't even get me started on last year! The worst year ever. To put it bluntly, last year really sucked. It was such a bad year. But not this year, this will be a good year. You can tell me "Girl, you sound crazy." It won't make a difference to me, 'Cause you'll see. This will be a good year.

My Turn 03:42
My Turn words and music by Angela Sheik You must be out of your mind or something. You must have hit your head this morning. You must be missing the signs that I’m sending. You must be out of your mind If you think I’d come back to you. You must have had something strong in your coffee. You must be losing your head without me. You’re making no kind of sense with your talking. You must be out of your mind If you think I’d come back to you Because it's my turn to leave you standing there. Now it’s my turn to say that I don’t care. I said it’s my turn to turn and walk away from you. Did you forget all the times that you left me? Did you forget all the pain that you've caused me? Did you forget how you left me crying? Well, I am here to remind. And did you think I’d come back to you? Bye-bye, baby.

Time To Rise 03:57
Time To Rise words and music by Angela Sheik It’s time to come to life And jump up ‘cause the sun is shining bright. The world’s already buzzing and it feels alright. It’s time to rise, time to rise. It’s time to say hello, Smile at those around you as you go. Isn’t it amazing how one smile can grow? It’s time to rise, time to rise. Leave your pillow! Rub your weary eyes! See, the day awaits. It’s time to rise! It’s time to seize the day, Greet the flowers blooming at your door. For every one you pick there’ll be a thousand more. It’s time to rise! It’s time to rise! Leave your pillow! Rub your weary eyes! See, the day awaits. It’s time to rise! Leave your worries, leave your cares behind. See, the day awaits. It’s time to rise! It’s time to seize the day And greet the flowers blooming at your door For every one you pick there’ll be a thousand more. It’s time to rise. It’s time to rise.

Love U Right 04:08
You and me, love, we’ve seen the world. We cross the ocean like we’re crossing a street. We’ve walked the skyline so many times That the blue has stained the soles of our feet. One by one, we've cross off dreams until the list was done. If I do anything with this life, if I’ve found anything that is worth the fight, If I do anything with this life I’m going to learn to love you right We’ve fought through mornings, we’ve danced through nights. Love is so easy when it isn’t hard. No you won’t! Yes you will! Moving on, standing still. Oh, babe, but we’re still standing. We’ve whooped the disease, but we carry the scars. One by one, we’ll move each stone until the walls come down. If I do anything with this life, if I do anything with remaining time, If I do anything with this life, I’m going to learn to love you right.

Old Friends 02:42
Old Friends words and music by Angela Sheik Rain drops in for a quick cup of tea. Sun raises his head to say “hello.” Moon lights the fireplace and all come around. Twi lights his pipe with a match from the ground. What a long time it's been. We should do this again. How I've missed you since then. How I long to be near you, old friend, Rain bows her fiddle and Sun strokes the keys. Moon beams at them both as he sings. Sun downs his drink and then joins in the chorus. Twi made excuses for leaving before us.

Glad You're Here words and music by Angela Sheik To the banister on the dark, uneven stair who caught me in the nick of time: You saved my bones, my shoes, my dress, my mind And I’m so glad you’re here. Mister oven mitt between my little hands And the burning pot roast (okay…or toast), I'm just glad you're here. To the friend who spots me at a rainy bus stop, Pulls up and kindly says “I'll drop you off,” I’m just glad you’re here. Just when I was about to call, When I was about to fall, You came running, red cape and all And I’m so glad you’re here.

Rumblin' 03:45
Rumblin' words and music by Angela Sheik See the smoke line rising, hear the whistle blow. Here she comes, the mighty train, the one that we all know. Feel the tremble of the tracks beat against your spine 'Cause she's coming. Can't you feel it? Can't you feel the rumblin'? The Engineer's no stranger, he knows us all by name. He’s coming for the holy and perhaps a few that ain’t. Hope you've got your ticket, I know that I’ve got mine. 'Cause it's coming. Can't you feel it? Can't you feel the rumblin'? As the train approaches, you can hear the Master call. He’s calling for his children. Lord, you know he knows them all. His voice is like the thunder crashing through the station wall. He's coming. Can't you feel it? Can't you feel the rumblin'? He says, “Matthew, you’ve robbed a few, But don't you worry, my boy, I love you. Martha, dear, you're way too busy. Let it go, girl. Come sit beside me, now. Paul, I hear you hate my church, But now it's time for you to get to work. Rahab, honey, thing of beauty. Can't you tell you're precious to me? Peter, come and stand beside me even though you did deny me. Leave your burdens! Feel my loving! Live your life like death is coming! It comes a rumblin'!”

Can't Help Falling In Love Written by George David Weiss, Hugo E. Peretti, and Luigi Creatore Adapted and arranged by Angela Sheik Sold with limited permission by Harry Fox Agency Wise men say only fools rush in But I can't help falling in love with you. Shall I stay? Would it be a sin If I can't help falling in love with you? Like a river flows surely to the sea, Darling, so it goes, Some things were meant to be. *Take my hand, take my heart, take my life, For I can't help falling in love with you. *original line: Take my hand, take my whole life too,

Knock It Down! words and music by Angela Sheik Oh boy, do I know that look on your face. Those baby blues are saying, “Bye! I am going places!” And nothing’s going to get in your way, There ain’t no fence that can make you stay ‘cause If you can’t go around, you’ll knock it down. If it seems that while your dreaming the world is saying, “No, no, no.” It’s hard to keep your head when inside your heart is telling you, “Go! Go! Go!” While your hurdle may be horribly high, You’re going to hear me cheering from the other side so If you can’t go around, we’ll knock it down! Maybe I am speaking too soon. Maybe life’s going to hand you a silver spoon and Maybe you won’t know what I’m talking about. Maybe you’ll never need to worry about it, But you know you’ve got places to go If the world is ever telling you, “I don’t think so.” Your hurdle may be horribly high, But you’re going to hear me cheering from the other side so If you can’t go around, we’ll knock it down!

about

2011-2012 BOSS National Loop Champion Angela Sheik releases her first full length solo album, "One by One." Compiling nearly three years of songwriting and recording and collaborations with esteemed musicians/producers Scot Sax and Ritchie Rubini, this album speaks with the solid, soulful voice of a female musician who has come into her own. Tracks include her loop championship winning tune, "Rumblin'," (www.youtube.com/watch?v=THyiw-jhAis) and an epic, Sigur Ros-esque interpretation of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling In Love." Elements of Portishead and Radiohead pull alongside the edgy quirkiness of Regina Spektor and Ingrid Michaelson. Song themes draw from relationship struggles, the recent passing of loved ones, tongue-in-cheek breakup songs, and the fight to see dreams thrive and be realized. This is a sonic exploration of resilient hope, battered-but-not-beaten love, gratitude, attitude, and the fierce decision to smile despite all that life throws our way.
